What is Buerger's Disease?

A rare condition where the blood vessels in legs and arms are inflamed a common occurrence in the hands and feet. Buerger's disease is accelerated by smoking which aids the disease getting worse. It is very important that you stop smoking because it damages the blood vessels, causes blood clots, stops circulation and the fingers don't get the nutrition that they need the nutrition can die without the nutrients and the oxygen that they need which will result in losing a finger.  So not smoking will help and reduce the chances of amputation of your limbs such as a finger, toe or worse.
  • Tenderness
  • Painful Feet and hands during exercise
  • Pain whilst resting
  • Tissue damage
  • Ulcers in the skin
  • Pale, red, or bluish hands or feet
  • Cold hands and feet
  • Aching ankles or feet
  • Skin change

  • The Cause is yet unknown, however studies show that smokers are prone to getting the disease smoking triggers an autoimmune response which is caused by the nicotine this then activates the Buerger's disease to start.

  • There is no effective cure for Buerger's disease, the only solution are
  • Stop Smoking
  • Treatment of medications for infected skin
  • Use of Surgery to amputate fingers, toes, feet, hands or cutting of nerves to control the pain
  • Keeping warm as cold will make matters worse
  • Not to walk barefooted if it's on your feet wear footwear for protection
  • Warm muscle and tissue massage to aid in circulation and reduce levels of pain
  • Not to wear tight fitted clothes
  • Not to sit in one place for too long
  • Avoid anything that will trigger off the pain you suffer
  • Stop Smoking
  • Cold weather can make symptoms worse so it is suggested to wrap up warm
  • Wearing protective foot that is well fitted to prevent foot injury 
  • Inserting insoles in your footwear to help correct alignment of the feet
  • Light exercising will help in circulation
  • Massage therapy will assist in circulation
  • Hot therapy will assist in circulation (Hot and Cold Gel Pack)
  • Sitting and standing for long periods will cause discomfort
  • To eliminate the use of all tobacco products
